HER VOICE

Partnership Spotlight: Her Voice Fund Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women to Lead, Influence, and Transform Communities The Her Voice Fund has been a strategic partner in advancing the leadership, rights, health, and meaningful participation of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Kenya. Through multiple investments, the partnership has empowered AGYW to claim their rights, participate in decision-making, influence policies, and champion gender equality within their communities and at the national level.

What We Did

The project focused on:

  • Promoting gender-transformative approaches that challenge harmful social and cultural norms to reduce AGYW vulnerability to HIV, GBV, and STIs.

  • Empowering women and girls to lead and shape the community agenda on prevention and response to gender-based violence.

  • Advancing disability inclusion by strengthening the leadership and advocacy skills of AGYW living with disabilities and supporting their participation in policy dialogue.

  • Enhancing the meaningful involvement of AGYW in Kenya’s HIV response at community, county, and national levels.

  • Engaging men, boys, parents, community leaders, and service providers as allies in promoting gender equality.

Key Achievements

Through the Her Voice Fund partnership, MOYOTE:

  • Empowered adolescent girls and young women to know, claim, and advocate for their rights.

  • Created and strengthened safe platforms that enabled AGYW to meaningfully participate in community, county, and national decision-making processes.

  • Amplified the voices of adolescent girls and young women living with disabilities in governance and policy spaces.

  • Influenced gender-transformative policies, strategies, and programmes that promote the health, rights, and wellbeing of AGYW.

  • Strengthened youth leadership and civic engagement in HIV prevention, treatment, care, and sexual and reproductive health programmes.

Lasting Impact The Her Voice Fund partnership has transformed the role of adolescent girls and young women from beneficiaries to leaders, advocates, and agents of change. By investing in their leadership and meaningful participation, the partnership has created spaces where young women can shape decisions affecting their health, rights, and safety. Today, many of these young women continue to serve as peer mentors, community advocates, and youth leaders, driving lasting and transformative change for themselves and future generations.
